On Thursday 7 March techUK was delighted to welcome members for a special briefing on new U.S. cyber security regulations and their impaction on UK companies with Eric Crusius, Partner at Holland & Knight LLP.

Over the last three years, the United States (U.S.) government has been issuing new cyber security regulations aimed at companies around world that are in the U.S. supply chain or do business with U.S.-based companies.  This session delved into the new and forthcoming requirements including the U.S. Department of Defense’s (U.S. DoD) Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) which will require a third-party cybersecurity certification and other cybersecurity initiatives launched by U.S. federal agencies.

Members were also provided information about:

  • the regulations, who they impact, and strategies for compliance;
  • the background and progress of the CMMC programme;
  • other cyber security regulations from various US Federal agencies;
  • status on FedRAMP and how it is connected with these requirements;
  • supply chain security initiatives including nation-based;
  • how the UK Tech and Defence industries will be impacted by these requirements; and
  • what UK companies should do to prepare for CMMC and other cybersecurity requirements.

There was also the opportunity to ask questions during and after the briefing.
