Local Public Services 2024 round-up

We are excited to share some highlights from techUK’s Local Public Services activities over the past year, showcasing key accomplishments, insights, and moments that defined our work. This year has been filled with meaningful conversations, impactful events, and collaborative efforts, all made possible thanks to your involvement and support.

There has been a lot of uncertainty for Local Public Services this year, with local elections, a general election, a new government, a new budget, difficult economic conditions and squeezed local budgets, alongside increased expectations of services offered by local government to citizens. But, we do need to remember the job that local government do, on a daily basis, delivering services to those who need them most and we need to make sure those achievement are celebrated! Technology and innovative solutions have a real opportunity to create change, support innovation and services and help local public services deliver future services and create opportunities, creating long-term change and growth opportunities.

We deeply appreciate your participation, enthusiasm, and contributions, which have been instrumental in making our initiatives successful. Here's to celebrating what we’ve achieved together and looking forward to even greater milestones in 2025!

techUK 2024 Local Public Services roundup:

2024 been a really active year for Local Public Services and the techUK LPS Committee have been leading the way, helping shape direction and focus of the programme. The current LPS Committee, Chaired by Sharna Quirke, and Vice-Chairs are Denis Kaminskiy, Arcus Global and Chris Melia, Capita. The committee have identified 4 key workstreams to drive forward local government digital ambition: innovation, skills, procurement and influence, to help councils overcome the barriers to transformation as well as build on the opportunities presented by technology and data and you can see some of the outputs from the committee in the month by month overview below:

  • Innovation: From demystifying the technologies of today and tomorrow, how they can transform local public service outcomes.
  • Procurement: Showcasing what good looks like and exploring how procurement can become the enabler to innovation. Helping to create a level playing field and delivering procurement outcomes that deliver the best value for citizens.
  • Skills: Working with the sector and industry to overcome the skills gap and provide insight on the skills of the future to ensure councils are equipped for future tech and data jobs.
  • Influence: To provide strategic influence for the ambition of technology in local government, what is it, what it could be and what needs to change to make it happen.
