Microsoft: Podcast - Everything suppliers need to know about the DDaT Playbook
Guest blog by Oliver Allan, Industry Advisor Apprentice, Microsoft. As part of the Digital Transformation In the Public Sector Week.
The DDaT Playbook is a shining example of collaboration between Government and industry, showcasing that best outcomes really do occur when the market is engaged with. Designed to improve how Government works alongside its suppliers by making sure that departments get procurement right from the start and set contracts up for success from the outset.
The 6 cross cutting priorities sets out the ethos for the government’s DDaT work and underpins key considerations for commercial activities with particular focus on avoiding and remediating legacy IT and pursuing ‘outcomes-based approaches’. Mandating this best practice guidance for Central Government Departments and ALBs really highlights how the Governments approach to procuring digital services is reaching a mature outlook and creating a Civil Service Fit for the Future.
In Microsoft’s and techUK’s joint podcast they discuss the DDaT Playbook and the history of playbooks, from the collapse of Carillion and the sequential progression from the Outsourcing Playbook all the way to the DDaT Playbook, why it is important for suppliers and what to look out for next in procurement reform.

On Tuesday 5 April, techUK was delighted to host the Cabinet Office and industry representatives for the launch event for the UK Government’s Digital, Data and Technology Sourcing Playbook which was published on 28 March 2022. The DDaT Sourcing Playbook sets out guidance – in one place – as to how digital projects and programmes are assessed, procured and delivered in central government departments, arms-length bodies and the wider public sector. Through the application of what is commercial best practice, the Playbook addresses 11 key policies and six cross-cutting priorities that will ensure government gets things right from the start when it comes to procurement.
