The techUK podcast: Cloud, Climate and Sustainability
In this episode of the techUK podcast we explore key issues around sustainability, cloud computing and the climate challenge.
Set against the backdrop of net zero targets, supply chain pressures, instability in the wholesale cost of electricity, and a Government that recently announced a national mission to reduce the UK’s energy consumption from buildings and industry by 15% by 2030, digital infrastructure providers and the customers they serve have a positive role to play in helping the tech sector be as sustainable and energy efficient as possible.
Cloud is helping organisations embrace digital transformation and move away from legacy infrastructure and it has the potential to play a positive role in both supporting economic growth and the UK’s net zero transition. To achieve this, we need to ensure that cloud is both provided and consumed with sustainability in mind.
We all have a shared responsibility – as individuals, as organisations and as an industry – to design, build, operate and consume cloud services responsibly, to build sustainability into our data management strategy and our day-to-day operations, and to work with customers and suppliers to take a holistic view of sustainability and the cloud.
