Ian Abbs

Chief Executive and Chief Medical Director of Guy’s and St Thomas’ , NHS Foundation Trust

Dr Ian Abbs became the Chief Executive of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in July 2019 and Chief Medical Officer in January 2017. He holds the degrees of BSc in Immunology and MB BS in Medicine, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and holds an MBA from the University of Cambridge. Ian has had a career in renal medicine at Guy’s Hospital, both as a postgraduate and as a consultant. In recognition of his commitment to research and education, he holds a Senior Lecturer position in the Faculty of Medicine, Kings College London.

Ian is Chair of the National Institutes of Health Research Clinical Research Network and is the former Chair of the Association of UK University Hospitals Medical Directors Board. He is Chair of the London Genomics Medicine Consortium and of Digital Health.London, the consortium of London academic organisations accountable for the development and delivery of digital health and technology. Most recently, Ian became the President of the European Union Healthcare Alliance.

Sophie Burton-Jones

Partner, Mills & Reeve

Sophie is a partner in Mills & Reeve’s technology and data team. She leads the firm’s NHS digital transformation practice, providing support and strategic advice both to NHS organisations throughout the different stages of their transformation journey and to health tech companies selling into the NHS. She is an expert on EPR procurement and also regularly advises on intra-Trust arrangements and data privacy/sharing requirements associated with the NHS digital convergence agenda.

Emily Cross

Senior Product Lead, NHS App

Emily Cross is a Senior Product Lead on the NHS App where she has worked for the last 2 years. One of her responsibilities has been to improve the integration process onto the NHS App as well as defining the future integration strategy to ensure what and how we integrate is fit for the vision of the NHS App product in the future. Emily has 10+ years’ experience in digital transformation in the NHS both nationally and locally as well as the private sector industry.

Sue Daley

Director, Technology and Innovation, techUK

Sue leads techUK's Technology and Innovation work at techUK.

This includes work programmes on cloud, data protection, data analytics, AI, digital ethics, Digital Identity and Internet of Things as well as emerging and transformative technologies and innovation policy. She has been recognised as one of the most influential people in UK tech by Computer Weekly's UKtech50 Longlist and in 2021 was inducted into the Computer Weekly Most Influential Women in UK Tech Hall of Fame. A key influencer in driving forward the data agenda in the UK Sue is co-chair of the UK government's National Data Strategy Forum. As well as being recognised in the UK's Big Data 100 and the Global Top 100 Data Visionaries for 2020 Sue has also been shortlisted for the Milton Keynes Women Leaders Awards and was a judge for the Loebner Prize in AI. In addition to being a regular industry speaker on issues including AI ethics, data protection and cyber security, Sue was recently a judge for the UK Tech 50 and is a regular judge of the annual UK Cloud Awards.

Dr Jennifer Dixon DBE

Chief Executive, Health Foundation

Dr Jennifer Dixon DBE joined the Health Foundation as Chief Executive in October 2013.

Jennifer was Chief Executive of the Nuffield Trust from 2008 to 2013. Prior to this, she was Director of Policy at The King’s Fund and was the policy advisor to the Chief Executive of the National Health Service between 1998 and 2000. Jennifer has undertaken research and published widely on health care reform both in the UK and internationally.

Originally trained in medicine, Jennifer practised mainly paediatric medicine, prior to a career in policy analysis. She has a Master’s in public health and a PhD in health services research from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. In 1990–91, Jennifer was a Harkness Fellow in New York.

Jennifer has served as a Board member of the Health Care Commission 2004–2009; the Audit Commission 2003–2012; the Care Quality Commission 2013–2016 and the UK Health Security Agency 2022–2024. She has led two national inquiries for government: on the setting up of published ratings of quality of NHS and social care providers in England (2013); and on the setting up of ratings for general practices (2015). She was also a member of the Parliamentary Review Panel for the Welsh Assembly Government advising on the future strategy for the NHS and social care in Wales (2017–2018).

Jennifer was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2009 and a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2019, and she was awarded a doctorate of science from Bristol University in 2016. She is a visiting professor at the London School of Economics, and has held similar positions at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Imperial College Business School. In January 2024 Jennifer was awarded a damehood in the New Years Honours.

Matthew Evans

Director, Markets, techUK

Matthew Evans leads techUK’s Market Programme teams and is a member of the senior leadership team.

The Market Programme teams help techUK members apply innovative technology solutions across a range of sectors, including the Public Sector, Financial Services and Cyber. 

Prior to his appointment in early 2019, Matt led techUK’s Smart Infrastructure and IoT work, as well as being CEO of the Broadband Stakeholder Group. During this time he led the telecoms industry’s approach to lowering the cost of network deployment, played a key role in coordinating it’s response to Brexit and was closely involved in the development of the Government’s Future Telecoms Infrastructure Review. He also assisted in the development of the UK’s first secure by design Code of Practice aimed at consumer IoT, oversaw the publication of a paper outlining the tech sector’s view of future mobility services and drove engagement around the use of digital twins.

Matt sits on the Steering Board of the Electric Vehicle Energy Taskforce, Digital Framework Task Group,  andthe advisory board for the Prospering from the Energy Revolution industrial challenge fund.

Prior to joining techUK, Matt worked in Arqiva's public policy team, across the broadcast and telecoms markets. Before that he was a researcher for an MP at Westminster.

Beverly Futtit

Digital Transformation Lead, National Care Forum

Beverly is Digital Transformation Lead for the National Care Forum and joined the organisation August 2023. She leads on the digital offer to our members at a time when the digital transformation agenda in social care is gaining pace and volume. Digital technology can bring huge benefits to those who access care and support services and to the organisations who deliver those services. Having seen the benefits of digital care but also understanding the challenges of implementation, Beverly is dedicated to supporting adult social care providers to successfully adopt digital technology and processes.
Beverly is an experienced adult social care leader and has extensive experience across a range of functions in adult social care including local authority commissioning, Regional Manager for a specialist housing and support provider and more recently running a Charity providing specialist advice and support to adult social care providers around workforce development and quality improvement, which included the delivery of a range of digital projects.

Dr Caroline Green

Head of Engagement, Institute for Ethics in AI, University of Oxford

Dr Caroline Green is an Early Career Research Fellow at the Institute and Research Fellow at Reuben College. Caroline's work focuses on AI and human rights, specifically in the fields of health and social care.  Caroline holds a LLB (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh, an MSc in Human Rights from the LSE, a MA in Investigative Journalism from City University and a PhD in Gerontology from King's College London. Prior to joining the Institute she worked as a ARC South London post-doctoral Research Fellow at King's College London.  

 

Caroline's research interests lie in the implications of AI on international human rights broadly. Caroline is specifically interested in AI and it's potential to support older people and family carers as well as the human rights and ethical implications of AI on caregiving.

Genta Hajri

Digital Innovation Delivery Lead, London Office of Technology and Innovation

Genta oversees the design and implementation of LOTI’s digital innovation programmes, with a strong emphasis on using service design tools to develop user-informed products and services.
 
Part of her current work focuses on supporting London boroughs to collaborate on improving outcomes in adult social care. As part of this, she leads LOTI's work on new service models and is now working to test an innovative, systemic approach to solving complex problems in adult social care.
 
Prior to LOTI, Genta worked in London's local government for six years where she held a number of roles and successfully led transformation and change initiatives in employment, apprenticeships, planning etc.

Tom Hardie

Senior Improvement Fellow, , The Health Foundation

Tom is a Senior Improvement Fellow in the Improvement team. He joined the Health Foundation in April 2018. 

Tom joined the Health Foundation from NHS England where he was Clinical Policy and Strategy Team Manager, covering maternity and women’s health. 

Tom was previously Communications and Engagement Lead for the National Maternity Review. He has held a number of other policy and project management roles at NHS England and the Department of Health. 

Prior to this, Tom worked for Minority Rights Group International, Hackney Community Law Centre and Intiwawa, a children’s charity in Peru. Tom received a distinction in his master’s degree in Law from SOAS, University of London, where he specialised in human rights.

Tommy Henderson-Reay

Social Worker and Digital Engagement Programme Manager, Digitising Social Car

Tommy is the lead social worker at the Digitising Social Care programme. He has worked across social care for over 15 years both for local authorities and the not-for-profit care provider sector. He now works for the Digitising Social Care programme across NHS England and DHSC supporting adult social care with digital transformation.  Having worked both locally and nationally, Tommy is focused on ensuring that those drawing on care and support as well as those who work in social care have the skills they need to engage with technology. In addition, he is a trustee of youth engagement charity, Grow UK, in Sheffield and loves anything related to sport, music or food.

Fiona Hilton

Directo, NHS England

A commercial leader with expertise in commercial strategy, procurement, and supply chain. Focused on building high performing teams and experienced with large budgets and full accountability for revenue, capital, and delivery of efficiencies in both private and public sector. Currently Director in NHS England Central Commercial Function delivering Commercial best practice and engagement across the 4000 commercial NHS community. Previously led NHS England Commercial Delivery team with £3bn turnover and £70m pa savings. Full accountability for all commercial arrangements and supplier performance including governance and assurance. 25 years working for blue chip FTSE 100 organisations including Wolseley plc, Boots the Chemist and under the parent of Kingfisher plc – Superdrug, Woolworths, and B&Q. All were undergoing rapid change with significant growth, productivity, and efficiency plans.

Richard Keyse

Having worked at several blue-chip companies such as Blackrock, Brewin Dolphin, JLL and Tier 1 consultancies such as KPMG and FTI Consulting, Richard has an extraordinary range of experience.
 
Richard Keyse, was living away from his mother when she was diagnosed with dementia. During this time, Richard’s eyes were opened to the many challenges facing an older or vulnerable person, their family, and the care system. This experience showed Richard that the care sector was in a difficult place and unable to fully serve those who relied on it which led Richard to found 2iC-Care which provides the TEC solution 'Andi. 
 
Richard is passionate about driving the market-leading Andi solution to transform the Health & Care tech sectors, especially focusing on digital transformation and culture change

David Lawson

Director of Medical Technology, Department of Health and Social Care

David Lawson is a seasoned senior procurement executive. He is the Director of Medical Technology at the Department of Health and Social Care. He took over the role having accrued over 20 years of experience working for Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (Guy’s and St Thomas’) as its Chief Procurement Officer. David has a wealth of experience in supply chain innovation and has also won the Supply Chain Excellence Award twice.

Before working for Guy’s and St Thomas’, he was the procurement advisor to the Department of Social Security and the Department of Environment.

Charlotte Lewis

Principal Associate, Commercial Health, Mills & Reeve

Charlotte is a specialist in commercial health with a passion for innovation. She loves to work with clients who are looking to break into new areas or do things differently.  

Charlotte advises the health and care sector on a wide range of commercial and corporate matters including corporate/contractual structures, new care models, and transformation programmes, as well as general commercial enquiries. She has a particular interest in healthtech and works with technology and digital companies operating within the sector. 

Charlotte has worked on pioneering transformation projects across the sector including the transfer of specialist clinical services between NHS Trusts in order to re-align services for the benefit of the entire population, resulting in a significant and positive impact on health outcomes.

Sultan Mahmud

Director of Healthcare, BT

Sultan is the appointed Director of Healthcare for BT Business and is the leader of the company’s healthcare business. He is an experienced executive with a passion for innovation and has had a distinguished career in the NHS spanning two decades and is a respected figure in Health technology circles in the UK and internationally.

Prior to this role Sultan was Chief of Innovation, Integration and Research at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) and before that at NHS England. He led pioneering work in integration across the care spectrum in primary, community and acute care and developed some of the most impactful live clinical datasets at a placed based level. Sultan is enthusiastic about care providers working collaboratively and using technology enabled methods to manage patient care in an anticipatory way. To this end he has worked closely to develop partnerships with the commercial sector, patient groups and clinical teams to enable evidence-based innovation.

In addition to his day job, he supports clinical teams to lead authentically and break down cultural barriers to enable anticipatory care and digital transformation. Sultan has a high energy, high commitment approach to the NHS and regularly invests time in supporting emerging leaders and in health care achieve their career and service goals.
In 2018 he was chosen as one of the 100 vibrant faces of the UK economy by Grant Thornton and in 2019 Sultan joined the Advisory Board of the Centre for Health and Social Care Leadership at the HSMC, University of Birmingham. He is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Keele, School of Medicine and is a visiting Professor at Birmingham City University. In January 2024 Sultan joined the Healthwatch England Committee.

Ralitsa Vasilovska is the CEO of Larkspur International Limited, a position to which she was appointed in 2016. Vasilovska previously held strategy and business development roles at Healthcare Communications UK, Overmore Group, and Principle Group. Rob Walker

Robert joined techUK in October 2022 as a Programme Manager for Health and Social Care.

Robert previously worked at the Pension Protection Fund, within the policy and public affairs team. Prior to this, he worked at the Scottish Parliament, advising politicians and industry stakeholders on a wide range of issues, including rural crime and health policies.

Dr Michael Watts

Michael is the Young Health Tech Leader of the Year 2024, an NHS doctor, NHS Innovation Accelerator Fellow and MBA Graduate by background. Helena Zaum

CCO, Sentinel Partners

Helena has over 20 years experience working within the technology sector, aligned to public sector and health and social care.  Helena’s work has a specific focus on ensuring services are collaborating effectively to support better outcomes for people in their day to day lives – as they move through services provided by various different agencies.  Helena is currently the Chief Commercial Officer for Sentinel Partners (a data and AI specialist), prior to which she worked for Microsoft and Accenture.  Helena firmly believes that the future health and wellbeing of the NHS and the population of the UK as a whole depends on much better integration with social care services, local government and local communities.
