As 2024 draws to a close, at least 50 countries and over half of the world’s population will have voted in the so-called ‘year of elections’. Yet with concerns and speculation over the threat that AI would pose to election security across the world, important questions remain unanswered.
From video generators to voice cloning software, new generative AI tools have lowered the barriers for users to create and spread political disinformation. At the same time, these tools improve the scale, realism and personalisation of content which could be used to manipulate voters.
With an opportunity to reflect on several key elections and what can be done to improve resilience against AI threats, techUK and CETaS are delighted to announce a joint event which will explore the following:
- What are the key findings from the evidence base of AI-related election threats in 2024?
- What measures worked effectively in seeking to counter AI election threats, such as deepfakes?
- What measures didn’t work as intended and what lessons can we learn from these experiences?
- What regulatory, policy and technical solutions do we need to implement ahead of future elections, to improve resilience against AI threats?
More information on speakers will be announced soon.
